Following President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address tonight, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin will deliver the GOP’s official response in a message to be broadcast by the major television networks. Following his talk, GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota will take to the web to deliver the official Tea Party rebuttal.

The two different responses emphasize the divisions within the Republican Party, riven as they are along establishment and Tea Party lines. Many downplay the divisions, noting that Ryan, a rising star of the party, is a fiscal conservative who is proposing deep cuts to discretionary federal spending.

If the ruling class republicans would come to their senses or start their own RINO party I like what Bachmann did!

Priebus won with 97 votes in the seventh round of voting. Priebus, the chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party, was the leader from the first ballot. He was the only candidate who did not lose any supporter as voting went on throughout Friday afternoon."

We have been waiting a long time for this from republicans.

Taking this benefit away from seniors would be irresponsible and reckless at a time when it is becoming harder and harder for seniors to afford a healthy retirement.”

The senators added: “If House Republicans move forward with a repeal of the health care law that threatens consumer benefits like the “donut hole” fix, we will block it in the Senate. This proposal deserves a chance to work. It is too important to be treated as collateral damage in a partisan mission to repeal health care.

To his credit and our amusement, Boehner reciprocated with his own letter to them.

"The Boston Tea Party, 1773"

In Boston, the arrival of three tea ships ignited a furious reaction. The crisis came to a head on December 16, 1773 when as many as 7,000 agitated locals milled about the wharf where the ships were docked. A mass meeting at the Old South Meeting House that morning resolved that the tea ships should leave the harbor without payment of any duty. A committee was selected to take this message to the Customs House to force release of the ships out of the harbor. The Collector of Customs refused to allow the ships to leave without payment of the duty. Stalemate. The committee reported back to the mass meeting and a howl erupted from the meeting hall. It was now early evening and a group of about 200 men, some disguised as Indians, assembled on a near-by hill. Whopping war chants, the crowd marched two-by-two to the wharf, descended upon the three ships and dumped their offending cargos of tea into the harbor waters.

Most colonists applauded the action while the reaction in London was swift and vehement. In March 1774 Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts which among other measures closed the Port of Boston. The fuse that led directly to the explosion of American independence was lit.

But Andy Williams, a De Pere attorney and a candidate that wants to make it through the GOP contest to run against Rep. Steve Kagen, D-Appleton, called the effort "distasteful" and refused to sign.

"I'm not going to vote for somebody just because they're the party candidate," said Williams, a Brown County Board supervisor. "To me, it's the same old politics that got us to where we are today. Nothing was addressed about whether they (other candidates) fall in line with my ideals."

He has a point and you have to give him credit. Those good old boy RINO's got us into this mess! Looks like we are back to the same old politics with the same old politicians!

The pledge was circulated March 6 by candidate Dr. Marc Trager, a Howard physician, at the party's 8th District caucus in Peshtigo. It asked the candidates to promise to announce their support for the primary winner within 48 hours after the Sept. 14 election.

Teri McCormick of Greenville, Roger Roth of Grand Chute and Reid Riddle of Kaukauna signed the pledge. Marc Savard of Door County attended the caucus, but didn't sign the pledge.

First, it doesn't say if Trager signed his own petition? I don't know Marc Trager so will not comment on him till I know more about him.



Second, hold the phone here. Did Terry McCormick have a come to Jesus meeting or something? Didn't she get P O'd that she lost or got no support from the republicans when she ran against John Gard? Didn't a lot of her staff go work for Steve Kagen after she lost? Terry, can you explain your new lease on life?



Has Roger Roth been in Madison too long? I thought he had great potential for a run against Kagen? This makes me wonder about him.



Reid Riddle? What does he have to lose? Didn't the republican party already anoint him the up and comer in the race? By the way, did Riddle really sell his business back in December? Does Riddle still live outside the 8th district. He did live in Dave Obeys district. Did he move into the 8th? Someone want to clarify this for me? Let me quote Mr Riddle from an e mail he sent me back in 09.

"Additionally, if the U.S. Constitution isn't concerned where I sleep at night I think the voters might not be concerned either. Since you are a conservative, I am sure that you appreciate the U.S. Constitution’s take on this and know that there is no requirement to live in a district - just the state. Let's not get distracted from seeing the big picture issues facing all Americans"

First, that was a poor choice of words " where I sleep at night", I am looking at the big picture. Dam right I believe in the constitution but will not get flim flamed by a progressive, moderate candidate again. Second, as a voter of the 8th it is important that my candidate would live in my district! People who try to bend the constitution are those I want out of Washington?



Looks like Marc Savard got squishy here. Either you sign it or you don't sign it like Williams. Come on man, take a stand! What are you afraid of?

Williams didn't attend the caucus and declined to sign when contacted about it.

Neither Kerry Thomas of Sayner nor Joseph Stern of Niagara attended the caucus, and haven't been asked to sign it.

"I believe it is the tradition of most political parties to support candidates from your party after the primary," McCormick said. "I gave speeches in 2006 with Laura Bush and John McCain on behalf of the primary candidate winner in 2006."

To be honest, I don't know a lot about Thomas or Stern.

Terry, you just couldn't say that one word, could you? Let me help you, now say it slowly,
G A R D or were you talking about another primary candidate winner in 2006? Cat got your tongue? McCormick must still be ticked about that race.

Roth said he signed the pledge because he thinks the party should stay unified.

"It's important that this election is run against Steve Kagen," Roth said. "This isn't about tearing one another down."

We will be united when we have a conservative candidate to run against Kagen. Nobody was talking about tearing down a candidate. We are talking about another John McCain debacle. I do not want a third party, I am conservative and most of the time vote republican. When republicans wake up and lead this country, (looking for conservative leaders, not RINO's,) we will take back this country. Phony gimmicks are not to be out on the table! The time to sign an endorsement of  a candidate is after the primary, wait and see who it is first. So if Barack Obama, John McCain or Steve Kagen was elected in the 8th district republican primary, everyone would support the winner?. Some of you republican candidates need your heads examined.

I am not endorsing Andy Williams but I will agree with his position on this. People want change, not the good old girls and boys network. Did anyone hear of the Tea Party movement? Are the phones ringing off the hook in Washington DC about health care?  Hello candidates, the lights are on and there is no one home.

Mike Trager, son of the candidate and the campaign spokesman, said there was no intent to put candidates on the spot.

"We weren't calling anybody out," he said. "We don't want to fracture the party. We just have to support each other."

What the hell is this, a AA meeting, "support each other", this is a campaign race to take our country back, not a support group for nandy pandy candidates. Is he O K? I wonder if he talks to himself, I hope he doesn't answer himself back. I guess I learned more about Trager. Looks like I can cross Marc Trager off my candidate list for pulling such a stunt.

Yes there will be a time that I endorse a candidate for the 8th district but to have the candidates themselves grandstanding during the campaign is utter insanity. I have seen no clear choice for the republican race. Maybe that is why this article lit a fuse under me. The more I read, the more I see and the more I learn is when I will make that decision.  Right now this horse race has a large field and no one is leading the race.

The new era of government control over our lives and freedoms has begun. This week, it got personal, and I felt helpless.

The doctor overseeing my health care advised me to get an H1N1 flu shot. I've been under a six-year treatment program for a chronic infection, plus I have heart and lung problems. Therefore, I am considered a high risk. Fortunately, my doctor had three shots available, but I would have to get approval from my county health department. Much to my surprise, the woman at the health department apologized and told me that even though I was a senior citizen at high risk, the health department had been instructed to approve shots only for children and pregnant mothers. I asked when a shot for my situation might be available. "We really don't know. Check back with us sometime in December."

What? The terrorist detainees in Gitmo are getting shots this month. Why not a high-risk senior citizen?

Mr. Obama, this is what we call health care rationing, which you claim won't happen under a government-run health care program.

If George W. Bush was considered the Barney Fife of executive power, then welcome to the Chicago-style politics of the new Vito Corleone family. The president himself, like a strong-armed enforcer, said in a nationally televised speech, "If you misrepresent anything in this plan, I will call you out." This administration has turned the once dignified and esteemed Oval Office into a war room for its liberal propaganda.

On his first day in office, the president signed the Ethics Commitments by Executive Branch Personnel executive order. During the campaign he vowed to keep lobbyists out of the administration. But in Section 3 of this order is a waiver clause. The director of the Office of Management and Budget "may grant" a written waiver of any restrictions. Former lobbyists were given waivers and now hold key positions in government. Mr. Obama, you lied.

At the same time lobbyists were coming in the front door, dozens of new unvetted, hand-picked ideologues were being shuttled in the back door. Many of these people were placed in key policymaking positions. U.S. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine was worried about 18 of these unvetted czars, 10 of whom worked in the White House. An amendment to force these appointees to testify in oversight hearings was shot down by the Democratic leadership. Collins was especially concerned about Carol Browner, who negotiated fuel-economy standards with the auto industry. She even sent a letter to Obama, and one of his counsels replied that no one would be made available. This administration fears no one, especially a senator who dares to enforce something as minor as checks and balances. Obama promised transparency. He lied.

On the topic of transparency, the $787 billion stimulus bill was a progressive Trojan horse. It's loaded with political favors and programs that set up the infrastructure for education, health care and climate change. It was passed and signed in a matter of weeks. This was not a bill to put Americans back to work. Obama said it would produce 3.5 million jobs in two years. Over the past year the administration has changed its story daily but finally settled on the "create or save" propaganda. Obama also said the bill would keep unemployment under 8 percent. The rate has climbed to over 10 percent. Either his economic advisers are incompetent and need to be fired, or, once again, Mr. President, you lied.

Mr. President, you said you didn't want to run our car companies and banks, but you do. With the $350 billion in TARP funds left by President Bush, Obama's people continued the surge of bailouts. Americans might be shocked to know the recipients of bailout money now total 727 institutions. This government control in the private sector is unprecedented.

Government-run health care, card check, cap-and-trade, net neutrality, control of radio stations and possible newspaper bailouts are just part of this administration's agenda.

It's time for Americans to get in this government's face and call it out. This coup d'etat can be defeated. We have the numbers, the votes and the will power to turn back this assault on our individual freedoms.

With 15 million unemployed Americans, I'm sure we can find a few willing patriots to fill all those upcoming vacant seats in Washington, especially with an annual salary of $170,000, office, staff, insurance, expense account and, best of all, a three-day workweek. The only requirements for this job are honesty, integrity and a love of country.

The Labor Department said the unemployment rate was the highest since April 1983. It revised job losses for August and September to show 91,000 fewer jobs lost than previously reported.

Limbaugh’s comments came today as he was discussing the race for Congress in New York’s 23rd district, where the GOP picked a liberal nominee to oppose a liberal Democrat, passing over a conservative candidate who wanted to represent the GOP, a candidate now pursuing the seat as a third-party candidate.

“They have a death wish. The Republican Party has a death wish. Gallup: 40 percent of Americans now say they are conservative, 20 percent say they’re liberal, 36 percent say they’re moderates. And of those three groups, which one is being ignored – not just ignored – which one is being attacked by the Republican Party? The conservatives! ” Limbaugh said today.

Well, you're gonna get that today before we start attacking Obama's health care plan, the latest folly with Harry Reid and so forth. There's a great piece in the UK Telegraph today -- you get real journalism over there -- this is by Nile Gardiner. "Barack Obama Has Failed to Defeat Conservatism in America." He plays off that Gallup poll, 40% of the people in this country say they are conservative, 20% say they are liberal, 36% say they are independent.
